This is the first step in salvation. The gift of salvation has been made available to all men, and to accept this gift one first has to acknowledge that he is in
need of salvation. This is where repentance begins.

Repentance – this means to have a change of heart and mind about sin, and turning away from sin and returning to God.God requires all men to repent
(Acts 17:30, 26:20)

We have to first admit that we have sinned and that we live a sinful life that we no longer desire to live. At this point a change of heart and mind has to be made because if one does not desire to change from the lifestyle, repentance cannot be obtained. For only
God can forgive sin and one must have a sorrow over the sin (Godly sorrow). 2 Cor 7:9-11

Sin has separated us from God and causes us to become enemies of God. The peace and fellowship that we once had with God has to restored and repentance clears the way for a new relationship with God. Once we have repented, God forgives our sin and washes us clean. (Isa 1:18)

46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem
Luke 24:46-47
